About Me:
Hello,
I’m Max, the Four-Legged Photographer and Friend of: Rain Dogs Photography
(I don’t have four legs, but most of our Canine Companions do) It may seem funny for me to say but, I don’t really think of myself of a ‘photographer’, rather, a DOG photographer or more accurately, someone who just adores and appreciates immensely our Canine Companions and happens to carry a camera with him every day; which obviously leads to my endlessly photographing a wide array of things!?! After a lifetime growing up with dogs just as any other member of our family, and they were many; I’ve spent nearly 5 years working full-time with our four-legged friends in the various facets and demands of, humane organizations, veterinary hospitals, boarding kennel operations and management, training, doggie-day-care programs, as well as companion animal cremations. I was born and raised on small horse ranch in western New York between Rochester (where my father worked for Eastman Kodak) and Niagara Falls, so cameras, film, and ‘picture taking’ have never been a stranger to me. I've had a camera in my hand for about as long as I can remember; and the various horses, goats, ducks, geese, cattle, pigs, barn-cats, and of course dogs of my youth, were always close compatriots and willing photographic subjects. I originally came to New England after college in Wyoming, feeling a little home sick, where my parents had retired to opening a Dog-Friendly Bed & Breakfast in Vermont’s stunning Northeast Kingdom. Always an artist, a few years ago I began shooting (with a camera of course) dogs more exclusively. Since then I’ve captured hundreds of canine companions and in 2007 independently published, a very small run though it was, my first calendar to showcase these images and pledged all the proceeds to companion animal welfare causes throughout the region. Along with an inherent connection with dogs from the beginning, this time has afforded me a deepened sense of their wit, wisdom, charm, and uniquity-we always get along famously; and I carry with me a reverent appreciation for their vast individual character, and for the preservation of their image, the impact of their spirit upon our home, our lives, our love, and our families.
And that’s precisely what I aim to capture, and why I can’t help but to venture on with my photography. Now having re-settled in Southwestern New Hampshire, along with my wife Suzy; a fellow photographer, I continue to dedicate as much of my time as I possibly can to the welfare of our four-legged friends. Through my volunteer efforts at the Monadnock Humane Society, I am now able to see this goal through more than ever before, beyond general care and cleaning, and fund raising events committees, I lend my photographic talents to the, hopefully temporary, tenants, and tireless efforts of the staff, and other volunteers at the shelter to help these endearing, countless, and desperately deserving creatures, absolutely free of charge. As an active member of a broad spectrum of nearly half a dozen art and photography groups, including the newly formed Keene Photography Club, Cheshire TV, Photo.net, Monadnock Valley Photographers, and the Keene Art Association; I hope to be able to expand my art to its fullest and most mutually beneficial extent throughout all of New England.
