I realize we haven't connected with other paddlers yet...but I know you're out there! Has anyone paddled Hoit Road Marsh in Concord? We made an attempt once and it was unbelievably windy. So windy, that we never launched our kayaks. I was wondering if this is normal for this pond or if it was just an exceptionally breezy day. Anyone had any experience here? I'd like to try again, but would love to hear from others who have paddled it.

Hi, just joined and saw your question! Yes, I have paddled there. It is pleasant, but it essentially a couple of feet of water over miles of muck bottom. Having made it sound disgusting (it's not), there was lots of wildlife and I caught quite a few pickerel from my kayak. Amazing to find such a peaceful place on the edge of Concord.
If what's at the bottom of the water body doesn't bother you, this is a great place!

Hi Rae,
Good to hear from a fellow paddler! We did return to Hoit Road Marsh and enjoyed our time on the water. But you're right. This is a true marsh. It's shallow and mucky. It was a different kayaking experience for us. We saw a great blue heron up close and other wildlife, too, so it was worthwile and yes, peaceful.

Another very pleasant place is on Route 129 near the Loudon/Gilmanton border called Rollins Pond. Beaver lodge, wildlife...a few homes there, but talk about classic fall photos...this place has got them. And, Merrymeeting River which I've mentioned in here either in Alton or New Durham. Quite a few places to access it and each locale gives you a different flavor of the river and marsh. I also enjoyed Kimball Pond in Dunbarton and Kimball Pond and Morrill Ponds in Canterbury. Those two are small enough that you would do both in one day.
Spring will be here eventually, I can't wait to get out on the water!
