I'm looking for some ideas on fun and unique places to visit in New Hampshire. Anyone have any suggestions up north, by the seacoast or in the western parts of the state? Any little towns that I have to visit or any hidden secrets that I should uncover? And where should I eat in these towns?

Morgen,

Suggestion of unique place to visit: Tamworth NH
Hidden Secrets: You can learn how to make cheese
What Should You Eat? Cheese, of course. If you don't like cheese, try the Tamworth Inn http://www.tamworth.com/ OR for more casual Sammy's Restaurant http://samanthasinn.com/restaurant.htm

Other Comments: This seems like a great early Mother's Day event for the entire family. I can hear your mother now bragging about how her kids gave her the gift of cheese-making :D

Well, if you haven't already done so, hike Rattlesnake Trail near Squam Lake. We just did so for the first time last fall. The hike was described to us as the easiest work for the biggest payoff (a beautiful panoramic view of lakes at the end of the hike).

West Rattlesnake on Trails.com

the elevation marker and view at the end of the short hike

How about a Zipline Tour: http://www.alpinesnowmobiling.com/Zip_Home_Page2.html It looks incredible.

* There are 7 zip-lines totaling over 2000' of exhilaration. Platforms are 15' to 65' high in the trees and the zip-lines are 100' to 700' long.
* "Treewalk Village" offers spectacular views of Franconia Notch and west of the Whites, as well as 4 non-belayed bridges, tree platforms and zip-line #1 that begins your ascent.
* Tours meet in our office on Main Street in Lincoln, where your guides will orient you to your equipment and accompany you to the trailhead.
* Alpine Adventures' Zip-line Treetop Tour is located on a 1700' hilltop consisting of 300 private acres just 10 minutes south Loon Mountain and Franconia Notch.
* Our zip-line course was constructed with 1/2" aircraft grade steel cable suspended between trees and rigging poles allowing guests to glide through the air using a pulley and climbing harness, conforming to ACCT standards for load capacity.
* Tour duration is approximately 2 hours, and includes a short shuttle in the Zip-line Limo Bus and an off-road Safari ride in our 6-wheel drive Pinzgauers.

In Franconia Notch there is the tram to the top of Cannon Mountain. It's a beautiful ride up, and there's a hiking trail that rings the peak with incredible views down through the notch, over into Vermont and up into Canada.
